Abstract

1,255,865. Air heaters. D. R. McWADE. 8 Aug., 1969 [20 Aug., 1968; 12 March, 1969]; No. 39725/69. Heading H5H. [Also in Division F1] A unit for heating the intake air of an I.C. engine comprises an electric heating element 1 wound on a rod insulator 2 which is supported centrally in a tube 16 by a pair of apertured ceramic insulator rings 3. The tube 16 is lined with a thermally insulating sleeve 15 and metal gauze filters 18 are provided at the inlet and outlet of the unit. In operation the unit may heat the air flowing therethrough to about 500‹ C.
