Abstract

1446058 Hot gas engines PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 19 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972] 43968/73 Heading F1S In a hot gas engine comprising a heater formed by a number of pipes 13, 17 which are arranged in the flow-path of combustion gases from a burner 21, the heater pipes are arranged over a part of their length within a common heat pipe 25 which is arranged to receive heat from a heat source during operation of the engine and transfer this heat to those parts of the heater pipes which are located within the heat pipe so as to equalize the temperatures of these parts of the heater pipes. An auxiliary burner or a electric heating element (not shown) located inside or outside the common heat pipe can be used as the heat source for this heat pipe. Preferably, the common heat pipe comprises a heat transmitting wall 27 which serves as the vapourizing wall of the heat pipe and which is arranged so that combustion gases from the burner device 21 flow over the wall in heat exchanging contact therewith. The burner 21 thus provides the heat source for the heat pipe.
