Abstract
1,254,760. Continuous casting; electroslag refining. BOHLER & CO. A.G. GEB. 8 Oct., 1969 [8 Oct., 1968], No. 49477/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Division H5] In an electroslag refining apparatus at least two moulds 11 are mounted upon a mould holding device 14, the device 14 being movable vertically on a guide column 50. As shown, three moulds 11 depend from the holding device 14, the mould axes being located at the apices of a horizontal equilateral triangle. Three electrodes 30 depend into the three moulds from an electrode holder 40 which is also vertically movable along the guide column 50. The electrodes are connected to a supply 60. The ingots producers 70 rest on an electrically conducting base-plate 80. Coolant is fed to the mould through a pipe 23 in the mould holding device 14. A pipe 18 conveys the coolant to the mould bases where it is introduced by horizontalpassages into the bottom of cavities 13, up through which the coolant flows in a helical path to leave the mould holding device through another passage (27). As refining proceeds the moulds 11 move upwardly.
