Abstract
1336025 Electroslag remelting process and apparatus ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Jan 1972 [7 Jan 1971] 870/71 Heading B3F [Also in Division H5] An apparatus for electroslag remelting of metals has a trough-shaped mould 1 i.e. a mould having a length in the horizontal direction at least 3 times greater than its width and depth, and a plurality of electrodes depending into the mould at positions spaced along the greater part of the length thereof, the mould and electrodes being supported for relative movement towards each other along a vertical path. This movement may be controlled by a signal derived from the electrode current, slag pool impedance or rate of metal deposition. A pair of moulds may be mounted back to back on a carriage (13), Fig 4 (not shown), which is rotated after solidification of one ingot so as to discharge the said ingot and bring the second mould to the operative position. Two sets of electrodes may be similarly mounted on a rotatable support 3.
