Abstract

1527572 Electroslag melting INST ELEKTRO IM E O PATONA AKAD NAUK UKRAIN SSR 4 March 1977 9299/77 Heading H5H [Also in Division B3] An electrode 2 is melted by slag in a chamber 9 in a mould 3, 4 to form a refined ingot 1, of similar cross-sectional area, on a starter plate 11 secured to a rotated drum 3 providing a moving surface of the mould; a carriage 12, with means 14 for holding the electrode, is rotatable about the drum axis by a (hydraulic) drive 13 in either direction so that if the cross-sectional area of the electrode 2 should vary from that of the ingot 1 the rate of feed into the chamber 9 can be varied to compensate. Insulating spacers 15 of solid slag support the electrode and enter the chamber 9 in turn to maintain the slag bath. Specification 1,469,850 is referred to.
