Abstract
1,254,145. Metal-vapour lamps. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. 30 April, 1969, No. 22066/69. Heading H1D. In an atomic spectral lamp as described in Specification 1,214,179 comprising two electrodes 4 and 5 between which, in operation, a positive column discharge is maintained, at least one cylindrical sputtering electrode 6, and tubes 8 and 20 of insulating material of smaller diameter than the internal diameter of electrode 6, each insulating tube 8, 20 is fastened by a flange to a cylindrical supporting body 10, 22 of insulating material, and the electrode 6 has a collar 12 with a stepped profile which is engaged by the bodies 10 and 22. The stepped profile provides annular capillary spaces 14 and 28 between electrode 6 and the bodies 10 and 22. The lamp shown has two sputtering electrodes 6 and 7 of Cu and Fe respectively. The glass envelope 1 has a vitreous quartz window 3 and is filled with argon at a pressure of 3 mm. Hg. The lower end 15 of the body 10 bears on the bottom 2 of the envelope 1 and surrounds the leads 25 and 26 to the cathode 4. Leads 27 and 28 to the anode 5 and lead 29 to electrode 6 are coated with insulating material and are located outside the bodies 10, 22 and 28. A getter 30 is provided, and the electrode assembly is supported in the envelope by mica plates 31. The sputtering electrodes 6 and 7 and Bodies 10, 22 and 28 may be provided with cooling vanes. The tubes 8, 20 and 16 and bodies 10, 22 and 28 may be of sintered alumina.
