Abstract
1,252,624. Cleaning boiler heating surfaces. AITCH GROUP CO., Ltd. 24 March, 1970 [3 March, 1969], No. 11309/69. Heading F4B. A method of cleaning the heating surfaces of boilers comprises spraying aqueous cleaning liquid on to the metal surfaces after covering any adjacent brickwork collecting, filtering, recycling and regenerating the liquid by controlling its acidity. The liquid which may be water or dilute solutions of soda ash, sodium silicate + hydrogen peroxide or caustic soda + hydrogen peroxide is sprayed at a pressure of 30-40 p.s.i.g. and at a temperature of 130-150‹F. Soda ash may be used to control its acidity. When hydrogen peroxide is used, more may be added on recirculation or the liquid may be subjected to ultraviolet radiation. During the spraying copper and zinc rods may be connected to the metal parts and a low voltage electric current applied across them. After spraying the parts are rinsed with water. The cleaning liquid may be pumped from a tank (Figs. 1-3) incorporating a heating element, distributed through sparge pipes with spraying heads or jets, collected and returned to the tank which also incorporates a filter.
