Abstract

PURPOSE: A carboxylic group containing, fluoric cation-exchange membrane is first dipped into acidic solution then alkaline solution to revover its initial electrolytic property, thereby effecting its repeated usage.
CONSTITUTION: A carboxylic group containing, fluoric cation-exchange membrane or sulfonic acid/carboxylic acid type ion-exchange menbrane which is electrolytically degraded by impurity contaimination of sodium chloride solution is immersed into a acidic solution of 1 N or more at a treating temperature of 45°C or higher. If severe contamination occurred to the membrane, the 1 N or more concentrated acidic solution should contain 1 wt% or more of a water soluble organic solvent, and the dipping provess is made at a temperature over 20°C. The membrane substantially free of impurities by such process is then immersed into aqueous NaOH solution of 0.1N or more at a temperature of 45°C or higher, or preferably aqueous NaOH solution of 0.1N or greater, containing 1 wt% or more of a water soluble organic solvent at a temperature of 20°C or higher, thereby recovering the initial electrolytic property of the membrane.
