Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively obtain sebacic acid di-higher-alkylester from adipic acid with a simple process, by removing adipic acid monomethylester in electrolytic solution by anion exchange treatment and also, carrying out transesterification at a fixed water concentration.
CONSTITUTION: Adipic acid monomethylester is electrolytically condensed and sebacic acid dimethylester is separated from the electrolytic solution. On this occasion, adipic acid monomethylester in the above solution is adsorbed and separated by anion exchange. Also, alkali metal salt of adipic acid monomethylester is separated by a small amount of water and alkali metal ion is separated by cation exchange. Next, transesterification of sebacic acid dimethylester is carried out and sebacic acid di-higher-alkylester is manufactured. At this time, transesterification is carried out by adding water to the reaction solution and maintaining the water concentration at a fixed level. Thus, esterification of catalyst itself is prevented and the reaction is completed in a short time and also, coloring of the reaction solution is able to improve.
