Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce dimethyl pentadecanedioate at a high current efficiency and a low electrolytic voltage, by subjecting a mixture of monomethyl adipate and monomethyl undecanedioate in a specified ratio to cross-Kolbe electrolysis.
CONSTITUTION: An acid mixture containing monomethyl adipate and monomethyl undecanedioate in a molar ratio of 2:1, preferably in a molar ratio of 5 or more: 1 is introduced into a methanol solution, sodium hydroxide is added to neutralize it, and electrolytic condensation is performed to produce dimethyl pentadecanedioate. It is required that the concentration of water in the methanol solution during the electrolytic condensation should be kept at 0.15W3.5wt% and the concentration of the introduced acid mixture is 10W50wt%. The degree of neutralization is 2W50mol%, the flow velocity of the electrolyte is 1W4m/sec, the distance between the electrodes is 0.5W3mm, the current density is 5W40 A/dm2, and the temperature of the electrolyte is 45W65°C.
