Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain hydrogen without consuming an alkylammonium salt of polymolybdic acid by a method wherein an anode is immersed in an aqueous solution of an alkylammonium salt of polymolybdic acid and, on the other hand, a cathode is immersed in an aqueous acid solution and, in a condition connecting both electrodes, a light with a specific wave length is irradiated to the former aqueous solution to generate hydrogen from the cathode.
CONSTITUTION: The alkylammonium salt of polymolybdic acid, especially, hexakis (isoproplylammonium) heptamolybdate trihydrate aqueous solution 2 is introduced in an anode chamber 1 and an anode 3 is immersed therein. The concn. of the solution is pref. 0.01W1mol. Subsequently the aqueous acid solution, especially, the aqueous sulfuric acid solution is introduced in a cathode chamber 4 and a cathode 6 is immersed therein. The concn. of the solution is pref. 0.1W10mol. Herein, both aqueous solutions is connected by using a glass slit diaphragm 7 so as not mix ?said solutions mutually and, at the same time, both electrode are connected, thereafter a light corresponding to the light absorbed in the aqueous solution in the anode chamber, that is, the light with the wave length of 400μ or less is irradiated to the aqueous solution in the anode chamber to generate hydrogen from the cathode due to light galvanic effect.
