Abstract

1,251,707. Air-cooled heat exchangers. COOLING DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 20 April, 1970 [14 May, 1969], No. 24507/69. Heading F4S. [Also in Division F1] Hydraulic turbines 13 driving a number of fans 11 in a heat exchanger 1 of the indirectcontact plain- or finned-tube type, are connected in flow series. The turbine-driven fan units may be arranged in sets, e.g. of three or four units, with the turbines connected in series, and the sets, e.g. three sets, may be connected in series to a common operating fluid supply, or each setmay be connected independently to-the common supply or to a respective independent supply. Manual selection means may be provided for connecting the sets in the manner required. Alternatively, one set directly connected to an operating fluid supply, may be series-connected to another set at an intermediate portion thereof, or independently to more than one other set. Four sets may be arranged as two series-connected pairs, each pair being connected with a respective operating fluid supply. The pressure of the operating fluid may be varied to suit particular cooling requirements of a heat exchanger.
