Abstract

1,251,317. Internal shoe drum brakes. BERGISCHE ACHSENFABRIK FR. KOTZ & SOHNE. 30 April, 1970 [5 May, 1969], No. 20737/70. Heading F2E. An internal shoe drum brake assembly comprises a back plate 5, a brake shoe actuating lever 3 a shackle 9 mounted on the lever 3, and an actuating cable 4 extending through a tubular cap 13 screwed into an aperture in the back plate 5, the cable 4 being detachably connected to the shackle 9. As shown, one end portion of the cable 4 is fitted with a forked link 7 for attachment to a brake operating lever (not shown) and the other end portion is formed with a nipple 8 which is fitted into a slot 12 in the shackle 9 which slot 12 comprises a neck portion and a widened portion 11, the nipple 8 being inserted through the widened portion 11 to be retained in the neck portion. The cable 4 has a sheath 14 secured to the cap 13 by locknuts 15. To remove the brake actuating cable 4, the locknuts 15 are released, the cap 13 is unscrewed from the back plate 5 and slid back over the sheath 14, and the nipple 8 can then be unhooked from the shackle 9.
