Abstract

472,103. Adjusting brakes. TEVES MASCHINENUND ARMATUREN-FABRIK GES., A. Jan. 11, 1937, No. 854. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1936. [Class 103 (i)] In self-adjusting stops such as described in Specification 318,447, [Class 103 (i)], adapted to operate directly on a brake shoe to limit the release movement thereof, the actual adjusting elements and the elements which determine the normal play of the shoe are enclosed in a dust- and water-tight manner. The device comprises a resilient nut part 8 having an internal thread engaged by a rackbar 9 within which a rod 10 has limited sliding movement. The device is enclosed in a rubber sheath 11 and may be filled with lubricant. It is attached to the brake shoe and to a fixed point at 6, 7 respectively, so that when the movement of the shoe when applied exceeds that corresponding to the lost motion s between the rod 10 and rack-bar 9, the rack is pulled through the part 8 and cannot return by reason of the shape of the teeth. The rackbar can also be screwed into or out of the nut.
