Abstract

1,249,381. Developing processes for diazotype materials to produce printing plates. OCE-VAN DER GRINTEN N. V. Jan. 9, 1969 [Jan.12, 1968], No. 1346/69. Heading G2C. A material containing a support with a hydrophilic surface sensitized with a benzene diazonium compound is imagewise exposed and developed with an aqueous, buffered phloroglucinol solution of pH 4-8 and containing 1-10% by volume of a liquid organic, non-aromatic solvent which is at least 10% by volume miscible with water and has a molecular weight more than 50 to produce an oleophilic azo dye image and thus a printing plate. The presensitized plate is preferably that set out in Specification 1,249,382 and the organic solvent is an alcohol, a mono-, di- or triethylene glycol, alkyl, ether or an ester thereof, an ester of formic or acetic acid with mono- or poly-hydric alcohols, aliphatic ketones, ketralcohols, dioxane or N-methyl-z-pyrrolidene. The use of this developer avoids inking of the background areas of the printing plate.
