Abstract

1,151,199. Photo-sensitive materials and their use in producing printing plates. KALLE A.G. Oct. 19, 1966 [Nov.24, 1965], No. 46773/66. Headings G2M and G2C. [Also in Division C3] Printing plates are produced by imagewise exposing a negative-working light-sensitive material comprising a metal support coated with an azide, a diazide or a diazo compound or resin, developing and cleaning (if necessary) to produce an oleophilic image on a hydrophilic metal background, heating in the presence of a novolak or a resole resin (such resin either being incorporated in the light-sensitive layer or is applied as a solution or emulsion prior to heating) to at least 180‹ C. and then cleaning the background areas to leave a printing plate. The metal support may be aluminium or stainless steel or copper-aluminium, copper-chromium or copper zinc and may be treated (e.g. with polyvinyl phosphoric acid) before applying the light-sensitive layer. The lacquer may contain a dye or may be a two-phase composition. The cleaning solutions may be trisodium phosphate, phosphoric acid or hydrofluoric acid. Specified light-sensitive materials are iminoquinone diazides of Specification 942, 404, diphenylamine-diazonium/formaldehyde condensation products and azides.
