Abstract

1413583 Photo-resist materials; colour proofing OCE-VAN DER GRINTEN NV 4 May 1973 [5 May 1972] 21380/73 Heading G2C A photo-resist material comprises (a) a transparent polyester support which has been surface treated to improve its adhesive properties (b) a cellulose ester layer which is surface saponified and (c) a light-sensitive layer applied to the saponified surface comprising (i) polyvinyl alcohol with 78%- 90% hydroxyl groups and a viscosity of 30 to 60 c.p. (ii) a pigment and (iii) a water-soluble condensate of a diazonium salt and formaldehyde. The surface treatment of the support preferably comprises using a solution of trichloracetic acid in an organic solvent. The material may be image-wise exposed and developed with water to produce a coloured image or a lithographic plate and preferably pigments transparent to actinic light (e.g. blue pigments which do not absorb between 3500 and 4000Š. Alternatively, the material may be used for colour proof using differently coloured pigments and registering the developed materials after exposure to the appropriate colour separation negatives.
