In a double-acting pump of the outwardly-sliding vane type an auxiliary pump 13 of the internallymeshing gear-type is driven by a shaft 19 of the rotor 1 and by way of channels 11, 12, 35 and chambers 10 applies pressure to the radiallyinnermost ends of the vanes 2 while the latter are in the low-pressure regions of spaces between the rotor and a stator 5. When the vanes are in the high-pressure regions they are loaded by pressure transmitted from an outlet, or pressure, chamber 9 through bores 8 and chambers 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>11</SP>. A spring-loaded plate 20 acts as a pressurelimiting valve, a suction aperture 23 in this plate being connected to a main inlet 32 by way of a channel 33. Fluid in the channels 35 lubricates the shaft 19.
