124,487. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, Sir G. T. Jan. 28, 1916. Sights and methods of sighting. - Relates to means for depressing a gun to a convenient angle for loading without disturbing the sights, comprising a member loosely mounted upon the gun cradle trunnions between the cradle and the carriage side cheeks, suitable gearing disposed between the cradle and said member for bringing the gun to the loading position, and ordinary elevating gear to elevate the gun and sights together. The invention comprises an arrangement wherein the loosely-mounted member is in the form of a stirrup piece which passes under the cradle, and which is preferably formed with sight trunnions situated outside its side members. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the stirrup piece B passing under the cradle is loosely mounted on the trunnions a between the cradle A<1> and the carriage side cheeks a<1>. Gearing C' on the cradle engaging a rack C on the stirrup piece serves to bring the gun to the loading position without disturbing the sights. The gun and sights are elevated together by an elevating rack and pinion B<1>, b<1>.
