Abstract
25,777. Vickers, Ltd., and Buckham, G. T. Nov. 9. Field carriages; mountings.-Relates to elevating- gear for guns with independent line of sight, of the kind in which the ranging and pointing pinions are separate, and the ranging pinion is adapted to be also actuated by an independent gear to move the gun into the loading position and back to the firing position. According to the invention, the ranging- pinion C, which gears with the elevating-rack C<3>, is driven through a differential gear C', D', E', either by the ranging hand-wheel or handle D, shaft D<0>, worm-gear D<Î>, and sleeve D<2> on one side of the gun, or by the loading' band-wheel or handle E, shaft E‹, and worm-gear E<Î> on the other side of the gun. The pointing-pinion G', which also gears with the rack C<3>, is actuated by a handwheel G, shaft G‹, and worm gearing carried by the fixed side bar B<1> of the mounting. This arrangement enables the operations of pointing, ranging, and loading' to proceed simultaneously. The differential gear may be replaced by any other mechanism permitting dual control of the pinion C, for example, a rotatable and slidable worm gear.
