Abstract

1,244,506. Fuel composition. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 28 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54213/68. Addition to 1,244,205. Heading C5G. A fuel comprises a major proportion by weight of a residual fuel or a flash distillate fuel and a minor proportion by weight of an oil-soluble copolymer of 99À5-70 mol. per cent ethylene and 0À5-30 mole per cent one or more substitutes ethylenes having one double bond and having one or more saturated linear side chains containing at least 18 carbon atoms provided that the copolymer has a MW of above 1000 but is not a dipolymer of ethylene and a vinyl (or hydrocarbyl vinyl) ester of a carboxylic acid of MW above 3000. Examples describe the use of terpolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate with (1) mixed di C 20 -C 22 fumarates, (2) mixed C 20 -C 22 methacrylates and (3) vinyl behenate.
