Abstract

1410819 Fuel composition SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 22 Dec 1972 [27 Dec 1971] 59304/72 Heading C5G A fuel composition comprises a waxy hydrocarbon fuel in which the paraffin vanes consist at least partly of paraffins with a melting point above 35‹ C. and a boiling point above 350‹ C., and one or more copolymers obtained by copolymerizing (a) an olefinically unsaturated compound containing an unbranched saturated hydrocarbon chain with at least 14 C atoms, with (b) a heterocyclic compound which contains an olefinically unsaturated double bond not directly attached to a heteroatom and of which the ring C atoms linked to the heteroatom do not carry monovalent hydrocarbon groups, optionally together with one or more other olefinically unsaturated compounds. The fuel consists at least in part of components obtained by flash distilling an atmospheric distillation residue of crude oil. Comonomer (a) can be alkyl or acyl styrenes, vinyl and allyl esters or alkyl amides of saturated monocarboxylic acids, dialkyl esters of unsaturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, e.g. fumarates or maleates or imides thereof, alkyl vinyl ethers or monoolefins. Preferred are C 18 -C 26 alkyl esters of methacrylic acid. Comonomer (b) can be S, O, P or N containing heterocycles, the preferred being he-vinyl pyridine.
