1,242,535. Fuel composition. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 28 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967 ; 11 Sept., 1968], Nos. 54631/67 and 43254/68. Heading C5G. A fuel composition comprises a major proportion by wt. of a residua-containing fuel, flash distillate fuel, shale oil or crude oil and a minor proportion by weight of an oil-soluble copolymer of 99-82 mole per cent ethylene and 1-18 mole per cent of one or more substituted ethylenes wherein if there are any saturated linear side chains present each contains less than 18 carbons, provided that the copolymer has a M.W. of above 800 and provided the copolymer is not a dipolymer of ethylene and a vinyl ester of a carboxylic acid of M.W. above 3000. Examples of comonomers are ethylvinylether, N-vinyl pyrrolidone, ethylacrylate, isobutylacrylate, methylmethacrylate, N - vinylcarbazole, allyl alcohol, C 8 or C 13 oxo fumarate, n - butyl maleate, 2 - ethylhexyl itaconate, oleic acid, acrylonitrile, diacetone acrylamide, vinylacetate and methaorylic acid.
