Machine guns; ordnance design.-Relates to muzzle-attachments for diminishing the recoil of rifles, machine guns or ordnance of the kind described in Specification 131,040, in which the gun gases expand into a divergent or convergentdivergent nozzle a, and are deflected rearwardly by a concave guide-surface c<3> generated by the revolution of an arc B, C, D around the axis X-X of the nozzle. According to the present invention, the outer portion C, D<1> of the guide-surface is convex in form, the double curvature creating vortices in the gases which cause them to be deflected in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the nozzle instead of rearwardly. The point of contra-flexure C of the guide-surface is given by a line drawn from the front lip A of the nozzle at an angle a, to the generator of the nozzle, this angle lying between 35 and 60 degrees.
