Abstract
440,022. Recoil-absorbing attachments to guns. GALLIOT, N., 110. Boulevard Exelmans, Paris. Nov. 29, 1934, No. 24778 /35. Convention date, Dec. 5. 1933. Divided out of 435,724. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to recoil-absorbing devices of the kind described in Specifications 131,040 and 176,337, [both in Class 92 (ii)], comprising one or more convergent-divergent nozzles b to increase the kinetic energy of the gases which are diverted rearwardly by one or more deflector surfaces each generated by the revolution of an arc c<2> round the axis of the gun barrel. According to the present invention, the gases pass rearwardly into a collector o of volute shape in transverse section and thence pass, as by a pipe o<3>, still rearwardly to the free air behind the gun or into a second collector. The invention is shown applied to a gun fitted with the recoil-absorbing device described in Specification 435,724 which includes helical vanes b<1>, i, h for maintaining the helicoidal motion of the gases initiated by the rifling, and means such as reservoir q, piping n<2>, cavities n, and passages n<3> for introducing cooling liquid into the gases. The helicoidal motion of the gases is maintained in the collector o by vanes a<2> forming part of a sleeve on the gun barrel and the cooling liquid passes through the collector by way of ducts p.
