124,444. Scheidweiler, A. April 25, 1916. [Convention date]. Vacuum closures. - A cover for a glass container for preserving vegetables &c. consists of a circular plate 1 of waste window glass, looking glass, &c. of suitable diameter with its edge covered by a ring 2 cut from a tube of rubber &c. of a diameter smaller than that of the plate and stretched over the plate. The cover is held on the neck 3 of the container 4 during the cooking and sterilization by a metal screw cover 5, which may have a circular opening in its upper surface and may be removed from the sterilized container or left thereon as desired.
