Abstract

Lawn-mowers.-Relates to motor lawn-mowers and consists in interposing a belt adapted to slip on a co-operating pulley in the driving mechanism so as to prevent accidents in case the knives become blocked. The invention is applicable to lawn-mowers driven either by an electric motor or an internal-combustion engine, and is described as applied to four different types of machine, viz., (1) in which an internal-combustion engine drives a countershaft from which both the knife and the supporting roller are driven, (2) in which only the knives are driven from the countershaft, and the machine is pushed by hand, (3) in which an electric motor drives the countershaft from which both the knife and the supporting roller are driven, and (4) in which an internal-combustion engine drives a countershaft from which the knife is driven while the supporting roller is driven from the knife shaft. In the cases in which the supporting roller is driven, a clutch may be employed to throw the gearing out of action when necessary.
