Abstract

1,242,907. Trays. MONSANTO CO. 20 Nov., 1968 [20 Nov., 1967], No. 55078/68. Addition to 1,165,034. Heading B8P. A tray 10, preferably of plastics material, comprises a base and sides extending upwardly and outwardly therefrom, the base being formed with a first set of parallel (raised) ribs 42 extending across the base and a second set of parallel raised ribs 44 extending across the base in non- parallel relation to the first set of ribs 42. Some portions of the ribs 44 blend into a minor proportion of the height of some of the ribs 42 or stop short thereof, and some portions of ribs 42 blend into the whole of the height of some of the ribs 44 and extend thereover. The minor proportion is preferably in the range of 0 to 0À09 of the height of the ribs 42. The tray 10 is provided with a peripheral flange 22 which is of minimum width adjacent the rounded corners of the tray. The corners may also incorporate a strengthening bend (Fig. III, not shown). Depressions may be provided in the tray for nesting purposes (Fig. VI, not shown). Thermoplastics materials such as polyethylene, isotactic polypropylene, polyacrylates, polymethacrylates, polycarbonates, PVC, polyethylene terephthalates or styrene copolymers e.g. biaxially oriented polystyrene may be used.
