Abstract

1,235,959. Securing panels to frameworks; stud and socket fastenings. ALCAN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 10 Oct., 1969 [23 Oct., 1968], No. 49985/69. Headings E1W and E2B. - A clip 12 is fixed to a framing member and has an upstanding outwardly directed stem 30 reinforced by a stiffening rib 64 with a winged head portion 32. Wings 34, 36 are bent in opposite directions out of the general plane of the clip head 32 so that a sheet 14 with a groove 16 having sides 48a, 50a divergent towards its mouth can be pressed over the clip head causing the wings of the resilient clip to rotate in the direction of the arrows on Fig. 7 as the clip head enters the groove. When inside the groove beyond projecting lip 56, 58 the clip head tends to revert to its position in the general plane of the clip 12 and because of the sloping downwardly directed edges 42, 44 or because of similarly sloping lands 52, 54 in the groove the sheet 14 is pulled firmly down onto the framing member. Several spaced clips may be formed on a single base strip separated by a distance equal to the separation of corresponding corrugations in a panel. A complete groove may be formed in two parts at the ends of adjoining sheets.
