Abstract

1,234,878. Steel production. NIPPON KOKAN K.K. April 28, 1969 [May 9, 1968], No.21531/69. Heading C7D. In a continuous method for producing steel, the pig iron is desulphurized and dephosphorized while applying mechanical agitation in the region of the slag/metal interface, oxygen being injected during the removal of P; the slag is then removed while pouring the melt into a converter; and oxygen is injected to decarburize the melt. The removal of P and S can be effected in one or more tanks, and the decarburizing furnace may be mounted on a rotatable platform to carry it to charging and refining stations.
