Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a high quality high Mn steel by refining at a low cost by injecting Mn ore into molten pig iron in a converter, refining the pig iron by oxygen blowing, stopping the blowing and adding ferrosilicon. CONSTITUTION:When a high Mn steel is manufactured from molten pig iron by refining in a converter, Mn ore is injected into the molten pig iron and the pig iron is refined by oxygen blowing. After the concn. of Mn in the pig iron is increased to about 60% of the concn. of Mn in the product, the blowing is stopped and ferrosilicon for reducing MnO in slag is added. All of MnO in formed slag is reduced and the desired high Mn steel contg. >=0.2% Mn is manufactured at a low cost.
