Abstract
PURPOSE:To extremely decrease the content of O2 in a silicon killed steel by using CaO-CaF2 molten slag which does not contain SiO2 as the molten slag to be used at the time of tapping a molten steel into a ladle, deoxidizing the same with ferrosilicon, etc., and producing the silicon killed steel. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 12 tapped from a converter is put into the ladle 11 and while the molten steel is stirred by blowing an inert gas such as Ar into the molten steel 12 by a lance 15, an Si deoxidizing agent such as ferrosilicon is added to the molten steel to deoxidize the steel and to produce the silicon killed steel. A slag forming material consisting of a mixture composed of CaO and CaF2 is charged onto the molten steel 12 in this case to form the molten slag 13 of a CaO system lowered in the melting temp. by CaF2. The molten slag 13 and the molten steel 12 are energized by graphite electrodes 14 and are thereby heated up. The SiO2 formed after the deoxidation of the molten steel by the Si bonds powerfully to the CaO as the SiO2 does not exist in the molten slag 13. The deoxidation reaction of the molten steel by the Si is thus accelerated and the silicon killed steel contg. O2 at an extremely low ratio is produced.
