Abstract

1,232,407. Syringe. DESERET PHARMACEUTICAL CO. Inc. 30 Aug., 1968, No. 41438/68. Heading A5R. A syringe unit comprises an open bottomed cylindrical case 1 with a top 2, a collapsible cylindrical bellows type body 5 disposed therein with its upper end sealed to the top of the case, a plunger 12 on the lower end of the body 5, a cup 15 formed in the plunger 12 facing into the body 5 and closed against communication by a pressure rupturable membrane 16, the cup 15 containing a medicament, soluble in a diluent contained in body 5, which combine when the membrane 16 is ruptured by pressure increase in the body due to a force applied by a finger to the bottom of cup 15. As shown, the case 1 has an elongated notch 3 and a slot 4 to provide finger access to the plunger. The plunger 12 has a dependent skirt 13 with a finger notch 14 in register with the elongated notch 3. An internally threaded neck 7 is mounted centrally on and opens through the top 2, the throat 8 being closed by a puncturable membrane 9 and a screw plug 10 which may be removed and replaced by another screw plug containing a double ended hypodermic needle capable of puncturing the membrane 9.
