Abstract

Mixing is effected in the syringe prior to injection, of substances that are not stable in soln. The syringe, consists of a sliding piston in a cylindrical body. A tip at one end, protected by a cap, is provided for the attachment of a hollow needle. A central washer divides the syringe into two compartments, and is kept in posn by a crescent-shaped ridge on the wall of the syringe body. The syringe is supplied ready for use, and contains the active ingredient and the excipient which remain sepd from each other until the moment of injection. Press exerted on the piston is transmitted to the washer by the liq. which tilts the washer but its longitudinal movement is prevented by the ridge. The liq. from one compartment penetrates into the other and the soln, emulsion or suspension, resulting from the mixing is then obtd by simple agitation; the syringe is then used in the conventional manner. The syringe may be of glass or plastic. After its first use it can be employed as a normal syring.
