Abstract

Syringe consists of a cylindrical transparent body of plastic matl. or glass which acts as a recipient for the pharmaceutical prod. between the time of packing and the moment of use. The lower end is closed by a plug which can be pierced by the upper part of the hypodermic needle when the injection of the patient is effected. The upper part of the syringe is closed by another plug which acts as a piston. It has a screw which receives the lower part of the piston rod; this is hollow and stores the needle before the syringe is required for use. It is then removed and screwed into a sleeve at the bottom of the first plug. When the needle is introduced into the patient the upper end of the needle pierces the plug and the liq. flows into the needle. Syringe is easily operated and is always ready for use. The body can be divided into >=2 chambers so that the medicament can be a mixt. of a solid and a carrier solvent; the two are kept apart till use when the press. of the piston tears a sepg. cap. All parts are made from matls. which will withstand a sterilising temp. of 130/140 degrees C.
