Abstract

1,231,218. Electric couplings. HEPWORTH ELECTRICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 22 Aug., 1969 [19 June, 1968], No. 29079/68. Heading H2E. An electrical cable joint 5 is insulated with a longitudinally split sleeve 1 of resilient material and having a rectangular notch 4 cut out of the centre of overlapped longitudinal edge 3. The sleeve 1 is forced open for fitting around a yoke 8, which clamps a branch conductor 9 to a main conductor 10, where the sleeve is axially located by one side 11 of the notch 4 engaging an end 6 of the yoke. The sleeve may be formed from vulcanized fibre sheet allowed to set around a mandrel or within a tube after being softened by heat, solvent, or moisture. Alternatively it may be made from a length of thermoplastic tube, such as polypropylene, by slitting it lengthwise and allowing it to set in a similar manner after deforming it with the aid of heat.
