Steel strapping having a tensile strength of 95 to 125 mp/mm<SP>2</SP>, elongation of 10 to 17% and an elastic limit ratio of 0À86 to 0À98 is produced from steel containing in percentage by weight C 0À35 - 0À8 Si 0À15 - 0À5 P, S not more than 0À045 each Mn and/or Ni 0À4 4 - 2 in total Fe balance which is hot-rolled, coiled at a temperature such that a bainitic or sorbitic structure is formed, cold-rolled to 0À3 to 1À3 mm thickness, and continuous annealed at 500‹ to 680‹ C. for such a period that recrystallization commences. The strip may be coiled at 500‹ to 620‹ C., and annealing effected in a neutral atmosphere.
