Abstract

[Also in Divisions D1-D2] Composite, multifilament yarn is formed by introducing a synthetic, thermoplastic monofilament or multifilament yarn into a freshly formed, untwisted assembly of cellulosic continuous filaments, feeding the resultant untwisted yarn to a take-up package, twisting the yarn during, or separately from, such take-up, optionally inserting additional twist, and finally subjecting the twisted yarn to a texturing operation. The cellulosic filaments may be of cellulose acetate or triacetate and are "intimately blended" with or envelop the multifilament or monofilament yarn which may be of nylon, polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene, polypropylene, or acrylic polymers or copolymers. The latter is introduced under tension at a point, e.g. the exit, within the spinning cabinet of a filament spinning machine whereat the extruded filaments have developed a dry and non-tacky outer surface.
