Abstract

1,226,461. Coating. MONSANTO CO. 2 April, 1969 [3 April, 1968 (3)], No. 17353/69. Addition to 1,141,582. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Pigment free films on a fibrous support are obtained from the copolymer latices of the main Specification 1,141,582 formed from 15-70% ethylene, 30-85% vinyl chloride and 0.1-10% of polar monomer(s) including acrylamide. In a preferred embodiment a mixture of such a latex with a polyvinylidene chloride latex is used to coat paper or the two latices are applied consecutively in either order or the latex may be applied as a first coating followed by polyvinyl alcohol or acetate. After air drying the sheets are heated at 120‹C for 2 minutes and calendered.
