Abstract

1,192,216. Grafted ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 18 Aug., 1967 [23 Aug., 1966], No. 38199/67. Heading C3G. An ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer is grafted with from 1À5 to 20 parts by weight of a mono-olefin containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms and 98À5 to 80 parts of vinyl chloride. Other graft monomers, in amount up to 10% by weight of the vinyl chloride, may also be employed. In Examples 1 to 3, a bead polymer is produced by suspending a solution of the base copolymer and azodiisobutyronitrile in vinyl chloride and isobutylene in an aqueous medium containing methyl cellulose and polymerizing the monomers. The graft monomer mixture in Example 4 also contains vinyl acetate. In Examples 5 and 6, propylene and ethylene, respectively, are employed in place of the isobutylene in Example 1.
