Abstract

1,254,812. Polymerizing vinyl chloride. B. F. GOODRICH CO. 1 April, 1970 [1 April, 1969], No.15327/70. Heading C3P. Vinyl chloride is polymerized or copolymerized with other vinylidene monomers in an aqueous medium and the volume of the reaction medium is maintained constant by adding further liquid; preferably the reactor is kept full. Reaction is terminated when the volume of liquid added indicates the desired conversion. The liquid added may be water, which may contain the usual additives, and/or monomer. Emulsion or suspension technique may be used. Examples describe homopolymerization and copolymerization with methyl acrylate or ethyl acrylate.
