Abstract

A stable aqueous dispersion comprises a mixture of 20 to 50% of a polymer A and 80 to 50% of a polymer B, polymer A being a copolymer of butadiene with one or both of styrene and methyl methacrylate and containing 20 to 60% butadiene, and polymer B being polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride containing at least 75% vinyl chloride. Specified comonomers are vinyl acetate, vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate, preferably in amounts from 10 to 25%. It is preferred that the butadiene is present in amount from 25 to 33%, and that the total amount of solids present in the dispersion is not less than 40%. The dispersion may be used to apply a high gloss coating to paper or board.
