Abstract

A dry stripping layer for a photographic stripping film is composed of a mixture of 40 to 80 parts of a n-butyl methacrylate/itaconic acid copolymer containing 96 to 99,5% of the former and 60 to 20 parts of a vinylidene chloride polymer containing at least 35% vinylidene chloride. The vinylidene chloride copolymer may comprise 35 to 96% vinylidene chloride, 3,5 to 40%, ethylenically unsaturated ester such as methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl acrylate or methacrylate, vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile, and 0,5 to 25% itaconic acid, and may be prepared as described in Specification 688,528. The butyl methacrylate/itaconic acid polymers may be prepared typically by reacting under a nitrogen atmosphere, 294 gms. of n-butyl methacrylate and 6 gms. of itaconic acid in 350 ccs. distilled water also containing 12 gms. sodium lauryl sulphate to which is added 1,18 gms. of potassium persulphate and 0,6 gm. sodium metabisulphite in 26 ccs. water by heating to 50 DEG C., whereafter as the polymerization proceeds the temperature is held between 50 DEG and 70 DEG C. The copolymers are blended as 15% solids aqueous dispersions and an alcohol/water saponin solution is added to the blend. Specifications 712,164, 718,422, 746,386 and 786,176 also are referred to.
