Abstract

1,223,939. Printed circuits. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 9 July, 1969 [26 Aug., 1968], No.40600/68. Heading HlR. A method of making a printed circuit board having plated through holes includes forming, in the usual manner, an electrical circuit on a metal foil clad insulating board, drilling holes in pre-determined positions through said circuit board, covering all parts of the board except the interiors of the holes, the areas in the immediate neighbourhood of said holes and possibly the spaces between the conductors with either a coating which is insoluble in water but readily soluble in another predetermined solvent, or a coating which will not accept sensitization for the acceptance of electroless plating but is readily soluble in a predetermined solvent, sensitizing the coated board for the acceptance of electroless plating, effecting electroless plating to a thickness of a few microns, dissolving the coating using the corresponding predetermined solvent thus leaving electroless plating around and inside the holes, and electroplating the board to deposit metal on the remaining electroless plating.
