Abstract

1,220,669. Cables. VEREINIGTE DRAHTUND KABELWERKE A.G. 11 July, 1969 [13 July, 1968], No. 35079/69. Heading H1A. A cable is sealed against the ingress of water in a longitudinal direction by a metal foil 3, coated on one side with a copolymer 2, wrapped around the cable core which is embedded in a foamable material 1, to which the uncoated side adheres during or after foaming, and a sheath is provided around the metal foil. The seam 4 of the metal, e.g. aluminium foil 3, may be folded over, such that the bonding is between copolymer and copolymer, and sealed by heating before the sheath (not shown) is fitted. If a larger spacing is needed between the core and the foil to improve the dielectric strength, a wide mesh plastics net may be inserted to provided an additional space which is filled by the foam, which may be polyurethane.
