Abstract
In a telecommunication cable of the kind comprising a core 1 including a multiplicity of polyethylene insulated conductors 2 with the interstices filled with petroleum jelly 3, and a polyethylene sheath 7, the core is enclosed in a loose fitting flexible sleeve of polyethylene or polyethylene terephthalate 4, possibly of polyethylene tape 8 which contains a buffer material 5. Preferably the buffer material fills any space between the core and sheath. The buffer material flows or is deformed within the flexible sleeve when the sheath is applied or it expands after the sheath is applied or, being hygroscopic e.g. polyacrylamide, when water penetrates the flexible sleeve. 6 is an optional conductive moisture barrier. The buffer material may be petroleum jelly or foam. <IMAGE>
