1434775 Making coaxial cables SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Nov 1973 [17 Jan 1973 8 Aug 1973 21 Aug 1973 12 Sept 1973] 55761/73 Heading B3A [Also in Divisions B5 C3 and H1] A co-axial cable is produced by covering, with an outer conductor, a cable cone which has been sheathed by extrusion (see Division B4-B5) with a polyolefin material foamed, to a defined foaming ratio in excess of 2À5, by a blowing agent comprising a volatile liquid (as defined) and a nucleating agent. The outer conductor of the co-axial cable may be of aluminium, copper or composite copper-adhesive. Such an outer conductor 56 may be applied thereto, by forming a tape like conductor by a roller to a cylindrical form around the sheathing 55, molding the nearly abutting edges 57, 57<SP>1</SP> of the conductor together by a welding machine 59, and drawing through a sinking die 60 to compress the outer conductor 56 around the sheathing 55. A layer of adhesive 58 may be applied to the sheathing opposite the edges 57, 57<SP>1</SP> to be welded, and is spread around the entire surface of the sheathing 55 by the passage through the sinking die 60, which may produce heat curing the adhesive.
