Abstract

1,098,966. Cables. ANDREW CORPORATION. Oct. 7, 1966 [Oct. 22, 1965], No. 44949/66. Heading H1A. A cable having a helically corrugated outer conductor 10 has a sealant material 30 blocking the helical passage (Fig. 4, not shown) between that conductor and the insulated core to prevent the spread of water. The cable consists of an inner conductor 12 surrounded by a foam plastics dielectric 14 and an outer conductor of copper or aluminium on to the inner surface 17 of which the sealant 30 is deposited from dispenser 35. The cable is manufactured by drawing these components between rollers 40 and through circular die 42, joining the edges 36, 38 of the outer conductor by seam welder 43 and corrugating at 44. The sealant may be a grease or a strip of plastics material (30a) (Fig. 6, not shown) or a foamed plastics material filling the helical passage (Fig. 5, not shown) and the cable may have more than one inner conductor.
