Abstract
1,219,872. Aerials. CO. EL. COMPLEMENTI ELETTRONICI S.p.A. 24 March, 1969 [6 April, 1968], No. 15254/69. Heading H4A. A device for use with a horn radiator 10, in order to improve the distribution of energy over the surface of an associated reflector, comprises a plane-faced member having a radiating aperture 18 therein which is fed by a waveguide 11 and which is surrounded by a plurality of radiation limiters 19. The limiters consist of coaxial annular recesses 20, 20<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>11</SP> &c. having open apertures, which are coplanar with the aperture 18, and defining baffles 21, 21<SP>1</SP>, 21<SP>11</SP> &c. The recesses are #/4 deep (# = mean operating wavelength), and are closed at their ends remote from the aperture 18. The radial thicknesses of the recesses are made such that their characteristic impedances do not decrease outwardly from the central axis of the horn, and so that the characteristic impedance of the outermost limiter is greater than that of the innermost limiter. The waveguide 11 may be fed from two cross-polarized sources, for the simultaneous transmission of two decoupled waves (Fig. 2, not shown).
