Abstract
983,458. Aerials. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Jan. 3, 1962 [Jan. 23, 1961], No. 313/62. Heading H4A. In a surface or leaky wave aerial one conducting surface 1, Fig. 1, extends parallel to a solid dielectric 2, there being disposed between these two at least one conducting wire 3 which, together with the surface 1, forms a line excited with E.M. energy. The dielectric 2 may be deposited or coated on to the surface 1 and the line may be matched by a transition element 8, Fig. 3, connecting the wire 3 to the inner member 6 of a coaxial feeder and the line may be terminated in a matched load 9. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), four wires are interposed between the conducting body of a missile and a dielectric outer cylinder and may be used to deliver " sum " and " difference " signals for monopulse radar. A similar arrangement in the nose of a missile, described with reference to Fig. 7 (not shown), produces a directive radiation pattern in which the radiation may be circularly polarized.
